Baking bread and connecting the dots

Welcome to The Knead by me, Mariette Papic: Jersey girl, Brooklyn artist, a traveling daughter of the Balkan peasantry who like many of you, had her wings temporarily clipped.

Over the course of this next year The Knead will explore our return to home baking amidst the pandemic and how it connects to the world we used to know.

The Knead is about all these things that come up over meals and in the kitchen while making them. It’s also about the places we go and the memories we make in other people’s kitchens, their bakeries and restaurants. The Knead is about where our minds can go while we repeat certain simple actions over and over.

Nothing about my cooking or baking is professional and that’s kind of the point. This whole thing, our whole world now — feels like a brand new project.
