Make These Cookies
Sugar Season is Here
Once upon a time sugar was a rare commodity. Now it’s in a lot of things. But sugar is at its very best when it’s a feature, not a bug in the recipe. Hence I am sharing this sugar cookie recipe I found in the New York Times, because it highlights the sugar like a simple but delicious cookie should. It’s technically a shortbread cookie which means it is rich in butter. They’re easy and you can make them sparkle. I and at least two taste-testers are pleased with them. In fact we were so pleased we almost made them dinner.
So, click that link if you’re in a last minute frenzy or if you’re in the mood to make cookies because you find it meditative. I know, there are other ways to meditate, but not all of them result in delicious, sugary sparkles. And remember, compared to most food we Americans eat, some sugary homemade cookies are not so bad for you. Nearly 60% of an American’s daily calories and 90% of added sugars come from “ultraprocessed” food, which is the type of food we could never make at home, at least not without a hazmat suit and some heavy machinery. ‘Tis the season to get real and roll around in sparkles. And if that’s too crazy for your lifestyle, then let the cookies do it for you.
Remember the link to the cookies has its paywall removed. « here is it is again.
